Historical Note
This pamphlet, "What President Wilson Says," was published in 1917 by the New York State Woman Suffrage Party and includes quotes by President Woodrow Wilson relating to the issue of women's suffrage. In November 1917, New York voters were offered a referendum on women's suffrage. No state on the East Coast had granted women the right to vote yet, and the National American Woman Suffrage Association and its state branch, the New York State Woman Suffrage Party, made the 1917 referendum a high priority. A large number of campaign materials were printed, including pamphlets, handbills, and broadsides, in an attempt to encourage male voters to enfranchise women. This pamphlet quotes President Wilson on various occasions in 1916 and 1917 endorsing suffrage for women. The referendum in New York State ultimately passed and women won the right to vote in that state on November 6, 1917.
