Collected by Ivy Daniels

Ivy C. Daniel was born in 1887 in Morrison, Illinois. She spent her childhood there and attended school. She married Artemus H. Feldman in 1906 and gave birth to a daughter, Valda. The family moved west, finally settling in Portland, Oregon. She then gave birth to a son, Daniel. Artemus, her husband was a plumber by trade and Ivy was a very dedicated and active wife and mother.

Ivy was also a collector of many things. She loved antiques, especially beautiful glassware, madonna figurines, jewelry and other works of art. She also had large bookmark and postcard collections. She saved all of the dolls and paper dolls that she and her daughter played with as children. She was an avid traveler and came home with many treasures. She had a wide range of friends and corresponded with people from all over the U.S. and the world. Because her name was Ivy, the plant ivy became the subject matter in many of her collections. People send her items from everywhere, including ivy themed objects.

Her daughter Valda, married Alfred Schar and gave birth to Ivy's only grandchild, Sylvia. Her son, Daniel, died in 1945, serving in the Army in Italy during WWII. After his death one of the most interesting events in her life began. It included her ivy covered house, telephone pole and Pacific Telephone and Telegraph. The story of the memorial to her son appeared in 68 different publications (please see attachments) and drew scores of visitors to her home.

Her husband died in 1949. She remained active until the end of her life in 1958, in Portland, Oregon. Ivy left behind a house full of treasures. Most of her possessions remained with her daughter until her passing in 2004 and in turn were inherited by her granddaughter. Many items that had value for their beauty and history have been donated to various institutions to preserve her legacy.
