The Selective Service Registration broadside is a government notice stating that, according to the Selective Service Law passed by Congress on 18 May 1917, all men between the ages of twenty-one and thirty-one must register on 5 June 1917 at their local voting precincts.

Biographical / Historical

The Selective Service Act of 1917 was enacted on 18 May 1917, shortly after America's entry into World War I. The Act authorized the United States government to establish a national army through conscription. The Selective Service Act was challenged in court, but deemed constitutional by the United States Supreme Court in 1918. The Act was voided on 11 November 1918, when World War I ended.
